The Behringer Centaur Overdrive (Centara) is a highly affordable clone of the iconic, famously expensive Klon Centaur, delivering the same transparent, amp-like overdrive players love — without the premium price tag. Built with all-analog circuitry and germanium diodes, it offers the touch-sensitive response, smooth clipping, and dynamic flexibility that made the original a legend.
A standout feature is its dual-ganged gain control, allowing precise blending from clean boost to rich, harmonically complex drive. Paired with Treble and Output knobs, players can shape everything from subtle breakup to full, singing saturation with impressive clarity.
While the Centara uses soft clipping rather than the Klon’s complex clipping method (giving it a slightly smoother feel), it remains one of the closest and most musical interpretations of the original circuit at a budget-friendly price.
The pedal has also gained attention for its strong resemblance to the Klon Centaur, sparking legal challenges and branding revisions — but despite the controversy, it continues to be praised for its excellent tone, value, and playability.
