The Electric Guitar
The electric guitar is a fretted string instrument with pickups and an amplification system. Made from various wood components such as a solid or hollow body, neck (traditionally maple) and fingerboard (usually rosewood), electric guitars also have electronic parts like pickups which convert string vibrations into electrical signals. These signals are amplified to produce sound.
The electric guitar has come a long way since its inception in the late 1800s with early models like the hollow-body electric guitars using vacuum tubes for amplification. Famous models like the Fender Telecaster (1951) and the Gibson Les Paul (1952) paved the way for modern electric guitar designs. The Fender Stratocaster (1954) became popular for its versatility and comfort.
