Humes & Berg Model 250 French Horn Practice Mute (Sh!Sh!)
Mute Types:
Straight mute: attaches to the interior of the bell by strips of cork, allowing a large amount of air to “escape” – used to modify the tone. Other tone-modifying mute types include the Cup Mute (like a straight mute with a cup on the big end), Bucket Mute (attaches to bell via metal stems), Hat mute, Plunger mute and Wah-Wah mute (also called “harmon” or “Extending Tube” mutes).
Practice Mute: attaches to the interior of the bell by a continuous ring of cork, thereby “trapping” the sound within the mute – used to decrease the volume of the instrument, making it less disturbing for the neighbours.
