Vibrating string length: 42-43 cm
Following the natural laws of physics, in order to reach lower frequencies an increase of diameter of the string is needed, but this increase will make the sound quality get worse and worse because of the internal dampening of the string. This translates into a duller sound, less brightness and responsiveness, following this practical law: the thicker the string, the duller the sound.
This way, the diameter variation among each string is considerably smaller, allowing the instrument to sound brighter, more powerful and more responsive through the entire range of the fretboard, especially over the 12th fret. The strings also keep a better intonation thanks to the reduced diameter variations. Until today, this result was reached only with harps, where the scale of the strings is continuously varied in order to limit the dampening issue.
