Meet The Piano Tuner & Technician – Michael Karlberg

MichaelCarlingford Music Centre has been associated with Michael Karlberg for around ten Years. He is the piano technician we most often use for our pre-delivery preparations on our premium quality Grand and Upright Pianos. Michael’s strength is the ability to get the most from each piano. Through regulation and voicing as well as tuning, Michael coaxes the best out of every piano.

Michael Karlberg started as an apprentice at Hellas piano factory, Finland 1972. After graduating as piano tuner he migrated to Sweden to further his studies by joining Svenska Pianofabriken, a company that specialised in the restoration of exclusive brands, in 1978.

1982 he joined the staff at Stockholm Concerthall as their resident piano technician. In this capacity, he had the privilege to prepare the pianos for highest ranking pianists of the world, such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Martha Argerich, Oscar Peterson and Keith Jarret amongst others. 1984 he spent time in Bösendorfer, Vienna.

cert1Having migrated to Australia he commenced his association with Kawai in 1990 and spent time in the Hamamatsu factory, familiarising himself with the Kawai product and the Kawai philosophy.

1995 he was invited to commence his studies with Steinway & Sons, Hamburg, which he concluded in 1998 by graduating from Steinway Academy, thus attaining his Concert Technician diploma.

1999 he was invited to attend MPA (master piano artisan) induction seminar in Kawai, Hamamatsu and attained his diploma in 2000.

His passion is Jazz, and he plays the piano.

We are very proud to have such a highly qualified Piano Technician on our staff. If you would like to meet Michael, face to face, he can found most Thursdays on the Piano floor at Carlingford Music Centre, coaxing the very best from the pianos on our showroom floor.
