Dog Days reflect the composer's discomfort with the high humidityand high tempertures often encountered in July and August; air so heavy and heat so oppressive that one can barely move. The composition reflec ts this climate in a slow, harmonically static language interrupted by whispered commentaries by the choir. The Trois Gymnopedies of EricSatie served as a musical model. (3:30)
